June Your Short ArtWrite Prompt

by Benjamin Neilsen

the cats who ordinarily saunter,

lounge and ignore,

ducked out of the frame today

do they understand art?

can they see how fur, eyes and insouciance

might interrupt cool, white lines?

are they aware their presence blocks

the swollen, magnetic sea,

that tugs me into blue?

no, they're just cats;

maybe they're napping.

About the author

Ben is a full time attorney and dad, and very part time writer who's currently peddling his first novel. He loves to travel when he can, and likes exploring the Idaho wilderness.

He says, "If you ever go to any of the islands around Greece, you'll see cats are everywhere, crawling all over the white buildings. But there are none in this picture. Made me smile."
