Come, Hang Your Hat
by E.E. Curtis
Come, hang your hat
Sit down for a chat
That scoundrel left you
Your kids are all brats
There’s plenty of hooks
Let’s talk about books
And when you get teary
Don’t worry ‘bout looks
Come, let me listen
I know that you’re missin’
Your friend who just died
Mom’s sweet apple pie
We’ll sip cold drinks
Don’t have to speak
The hats that have hung here
Have fit many a- head
Some who wished they were somethin’
Some who wished they were dead
We all need a friend
Who’ll love and not judge
Remember your hat on the way out the door
Come back anytime to hang it some more

Jenny is a photographer currently based out of North Carolina. Jenny believes that, "photography is artwork that tells a story."
I asked Jenny to be a featured artist for some of my shorts. I know her work and am always excited about her photos. I didn't expect to find this picture and be inspired to write from it. But the words just came, and interestingly, after I wrote this poem I realized that it optimizes our friendship. We may not have hung literal hats, but we've had many front porch chats.
