Unblinking
Your Short Submission
By Joy C., age 13
I know you're leaving,
but only you keep me whole.
My eye that's missing
keeps me blind to half the world.
If you would only stay.
But your wings will carry you away,
to the world I could only dream of.
And your eye is still open wide.
Mine will keep closing.
I'll blink and waste my life
being oblivious
to my dark surroundings.
The world is stormy,
dark and blue and grey.
But you still shine
like summer's golden rays.
If only you would stay,
in the world so dark and grey,
but even your unblinking eye
will close and fade away.
